The Australian Wine Research Institute (AWRI) supports the sustainability and success of the Australian grape and wine industry through world-class research, technical innovation, and expert services. AWRI is seeking a strategic, collaborative, and commercially driven leader to join its Executive Management Group. As a key member of this senior leadership team you will oversee Affinity Labs, AWRI’s commercial arm, and lead growth across its laboratory, consulting, and contract service operations.
This role aligns with AWRI’s mission to support the Australian grape and wine industry through world-class research, practical solutions, and knowledge transfer. The successful candidate will embody AWRI’s values of Excellence, Integrity, and Passion.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead AWRI’s commercial strategy, performance and service delivery
- Oversee analytical testing, technical consulting, accreditations, and product development
- Identify new commercial opportunities and build strong industry relationships
- Foster innovation and ensure financial sustainability of services
- Lead and develop high-performing, multidisciplinary teams
About You
You are a forward-thinking leader who brings both strategic vision and operational excellence. You’ll also demonstrate:
- Proven senior leadership (min. 5 years) in commercial operations or business development
- Strong background in agribusiness, wine, food & beverage or a related sector
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a collaborative leadership style
- Strong financial and commercial acumen
- Experience leading technical or service-based teams in a client-focused environment
- Ability to foster a culture of collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement
- Tertiary qualifications in business, science, wine or a related discipline
- A track record of attracting research funding or investment will be highly regarded
