Cara is a values-based organisation with a long and proud history of service and support to people with severe and multiple disabilities. With a commitment to helping customers live fulfilling everyday lives Cara has undergone transformational change through the advent of the NDIS to continue this important work.

Today, Cara is one of the largest disability service providers in South Australia, covering metropolitan and regional South Australia. With more than 1,000 staff, Cara work alongside people with disabilities, and their families, to provide support and empower people for greater independence through the provision of accommodation, respite and lifestyle support.

The Board, working closely with the CEO ensure their vision and passion for the organisation is realised within a structure of sound governance and leadership, financial sustainability and the highest standards of client safety and quality. Having developed a new and exciting 3-year strategy, it’s an opportune time to come on board to further enhance the Board’s skills composition.

Applications are encouraged from appropriately qualified professionals, with either a lived experience or a genuine interest in people with disabilities and their families, who have had demonstrated Board experience, within large, complex and highly regulated organisations, particularly through periods of transformational change. Specifically, we are looking for experienced Directors with skills in any of the following areas:

  • Strategic Financial and Commercial acumen
  • Sales, Marketing & Communications 
  • People & Culture
  • Leadership and transformational change

In addition to the above sector experience, applicants should have well developed governance skills, astute financial and commercial acumen and exceptional stakeholder engagement and communication skills. Exposure to the disability sector would be highly regarded but is not essential. With monthly board meetings and committees on which Directors participate, the role requires candidates who are available to actively participate in the Board’s calendar.
